No way! You just need a permit. I think that's one of the biggest industries in Washington, actually. I saw some people (I use the term loosely) cutting down a (Christmas) tree to take home in a National *Park* (Lassen) last month.

You could also bring your cows or pick axe to dig a mine. You could probably even grow a pot farm without too much trouble, not that it would be legal.
