"Construction involved building a huge trestle circling back and leading up to the bridge, then constructing the bridge itself by building upwards from pilings frozen in the river. In January, the falsework piling (trestle) frozen in the river reached to the base of the bridge as contstuction continued on the spans." This is crossing the Tanana River. I believe there was a silent movie made about the building of this bridge. We saw a PBS special the night we arrived in Anchorage about the building of the ARR>
