Was this an Amtrak train? They have the bubble dome swivel chair cars on the Amtrak I rode from L.A. It was a great spot to sit and watch the wildlife.

The cars are owned by Holland America Lines and pulled for them by Alaska Rail Road. Most of them are old, built in the '50's by the Budd Company, and used on various railroads. HAL assembled them, starting in 1985, restored them (initially 575K per car, the last two were 1,000K each. They have been running them in Alaska since 2005. I'll bring the book with their history to CA
