The hike was beautiful but you wouldn't believe the wind! The day before in Puerto Natales, Jay and I had attended a seminar at an American run expedition outfitter shop. The guy running the seminar had stressed the importance of not dressing too warmly as to prevent sweating and thus clammy, wet clothes. So, Jay the trooper that he was hiked without his windbreaker / rain jacket on. I tried this and I was so cold even when hiking at a good pace, so I eventually thought to myself, I think I know what I'm doing and I know when I'm too warm (from ski mountaineering) and I definitely need a jacket right now. After I put my jacket on, I felt fine, but never got sweaty either.
