Northstar recently added a Ritz-Carlton hotel which has its own gondola. However, the gondola is not a high-speed unit that detaches from a cable, so instead a cluster of cars arrives at the base station and the whole gondola slows to a crawl while passengers at either terminus unload or load. Then the gondola speeds up for a few hundred yards and then the process repeats. The effect is that when riding this gondola you lurch up the hill making half a dozen seemingly pointless crawls along the way. Seemingly budget compromise for a RC resort. Monica's magazine is doing a story on the RC and she says some of the rooms rent for $4,000 USD per night!
