The timing could not have been better. On Friday night, Mammoth was hammered with about 18 inches of snow, which shut down much of the town. On Saturday by mid-day, the roads (and runway!) had been plowed and the wind died down and we arrived without a hitch. The top of the mountain was closed all morning for avalanche control, and it opened just an hour or so before we arrived. So, at 2 in the afternoon, there was plenty of soft, fluffy untouched snow for us to play in, and not a cloud in the sky.
