There was an "interpretive panel" (NPS-speak for sign) that highlighted among other things a strip mine, plainly visible in the middle-ground. I like how they liken the purpose of the modern strip mine to the activities of the adze-wielding native of days of yore chipping away at palm trees to build an outrigger or shelter.
