My last stop was the Museo del Oro, or Museum of Gold, showcasing uncountable gold artifacts from indigenous cultures. Nearly all of it was melted down by the Spanish under colonial rule; it is amazing that the vast quantity contained in this museum represents just a tiny fraction of what existed at the time of European conquest.
