The YARTS bus service runs from Mammoth to Yosemite Valley once per day and it would pick me up at my trailhead at 7:55am. This meant a wake-up call at 4am (thanks, iPhone) a quick breakfast and on the trail by 5am. It was still completely dark at this hour so I hiked by headlamp until the first light of morning started to fill the eastern sky. At this point, I was able to switch off my headlamp and see the reservoir I had been hiking along: Gem "Lake" and its accompanying dam. The picture is crooked because it was a time exposure shot that I got by resting my camera on a rock.
