Here's how badly I misjudged. Looking to the west, Mt. Lyell (the highest point in Yosemite National Park at 13,114 feet) is perhaps 3/4 of a mile distant, separated by at least 3 more distinct sub-peaks. It is the pointy peak that marks the highest point in the photograph, were you to draw a straight line across it. Because of the prominence rule, I'm actually on Mt. Lyell where I stand now, but about 700 feet too low, and 3000-4000 feet too northeast. Oh well, I still had an adventure and those snowfields don't look like much fun to cross anyway.
