Tomorrow's climb: East Buttress of Whitney (5.7). The route we take is almost a perfect straight line from the foreground of this shot to the top of the mountain. The Whitney Mountaineer's Route (3rd class) is the gully at the right of the picture. This is the intended descent route for the East Buttress climb. At the left in the sunshine are (from right to left) Keeler Needle, Day Needle and Third Needle. All of the needles have rock climbing routes on them as well, but they are much harder than the two easiest routes up Whitney. The other comparable route up Mt. Whitney's east face, named appropriately enough East Face (5.7) is on my short list of climbs I would like to do in the future.
