Starting the 2-day hike out from the bottom of Kolob Canyon. There is a one-day short-cut exit hike, but it involves an extremely strenuous uphill bushwhack called M.I.A., named for the number of hikers who go missing in this area after failing to route-find their way through the single narrow break in the cliff bands which is the only uphill in this part of the park. Also, MIA bypasses a day's worth of beautiful narrows culminating in Zion's "The Narrows", the most famous section of the Virgin river which almost all tourists walk at least part of. Our itinerary afforded us the luxury to camp in this special section of the park, and spend a second day at a much more leisurely pace seeing a section of the park very few tourists and hikers get to see.
