Note the hump in the middle of the crater - volcanic activity continued from 1980-1986 and started that (here's a nice graphic of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mt_st_helens_dome_growth_schematic_80-86.svg ). But then there have been several eruptions since then that have built it up further. No activity has been observed since January, 2008.
