Visible is the Rumeli Fortress ... a series of three towers built by the invading Ottoman forces when they laid siege to Constantinople in the 15th century. They also had one on the Asian side, and between them, the controlled traffic coming from the Black Sea in an attempt to assist Constantinople. The fortresses were built at the narrowest point of the Bosphorous, which is logically where the first bridge was built.
