Independence Monument. In 1911, the park's caretaker John Otto "manufactured" a route to the top of the monument in order to attract visitors. The route included chipped steps and iron rods driven into the sandstone to aid the ascent. The rods have been removed and what is left is a rather moderate 5.9 climb to the summit.
