At certain times of the year, a large herd of elk settle in the valley near Packwood, WA, on the road from White Pass. Here are a few of the ladies, having lunch (photo taken on our way home around 5pm).

  • So does someone have a place for them and 'feed' them, or do they just show up and wander around?

  • I believe you're seeing them eat right there... It's just a nice valley and I think they can't be hunted in town, so it's a good life (other than the occasional high-speed SUV interaction, I'd guess).
