The building, originally built with the same number of bays on either side, was made unsymmetric when La Salle Blvd (to the west) needed to be expanded. Rather than reroute the road or figure out a better way, they lopped off a bay. It's clearly visible through googlemaps; use the maps to find LaSalle and Kinzie, the turn on the satellite.
