Just to clarify this visit - Canyonlands has 3 distinct parts. The Sky Islands, Needles and the Maze. You cannot go from one to the other without going back out to the main road and driving a distance to a separate entrance. The Maze is restricted to hikers, bikers and high freeboard 4 wheel vehicles. And Arches Natl Park is "across the road" and in the NE corner of the area. All of these parks are centered around Moab. Moab had become a very "hot" town for vacation homes and tourists. There is an airport with private jets just north of town. Also, a working underground potash mine.
