The Merchandise Mart on the north side. Originally owned by Marshall Fields, things faltered during the depression and Joe Kennedy bought it for less than it was built for. He sold it for much, much more many years later. For years, it served as the home base for Sears & Roebuck and other mail-order companies. The building's 700,000 sq ft are now mainly used for furniture home showrooms.
