And back at the deviator saddle. Before lunch, the guys were hooking up the newest cable (exiting the picture on the right in the middle) to some come-alongs that they would use to pull it over the edge when the load was reduced (reducing the tension makes it possible to move the cable, but it's still not easy).

I am so blown away by the process. I presume that this concept had been "invented" and tried somewhere else. The squaring of the cables - the positioning - and tensioning - is so brilliant. How accurate is the alignment of the red/blue lines?

Yes and no. I mean, someone had to come up with it at some point. Maybe it was tested in a lab? More likely it was all just engineered. Construction engineering is a subset of structural engineering, with a completely different set of constraints, needs, and solutions.
