Looking down the skyway towards Oakland. The horizontal pieces along the underside of the Skyway are for birds -- apparently there are birds that nest in the old bridge, so they are trying to provide a new habitat for when the old bridge is taken down.

  • I would have assumed that the birds would live in the open gap between skyway sections (shown in the pics above). The open ends of the sections look built to be a home.

  • I am assuming that gap at the expansion joint will eventually be covered up with plates and other stuff that will still allow movement, but keep out wildlife (and make it appear less scary)...
