  • The rock is grippier but chossier than granite so I would say it's a wash. Because of the latter it sure feels scarier. Glad I wasn't leading this one. :o)

  • Choss is a term for loose or broken or easily breakable rock. I thought it was a geology term but it might just be a climbing term. Generally choss is to be avoided when rock climbing since it is unsafe, or at least unstable/unpredictable.
