  • Great shot. That's a large hunk of rock. Could you see any people on it? I can't.

  • I can't either... this reminds me that I have a pile of photos to caption.

  • Reminds me of this article Mom sent out about a month ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/14/us/14snow.html

  • Yeah, I'd seen that too. Turns out my friend Chris Samsen was there this past weekend and (I believe) climbed it. Definitely got to Camp Muir.

  • Huh. Is Camp Muir visible in that photo? I tried comparing with photos online with routes highlighted but couldn't make heads or tails of it... seemed like many popular routes were more on the S face.

  • So are you going to start mountaineering now??

    — John Hovell

  • Camp Muir is on the S / SE, so I don't think it'd be visible. I am looking at a pretty good map and I am thinking more and more that this view is NW/W and the other pic is W/SW. The big glacier off the top is the Tahoma (on which supposedly there is a route, aptly named the Tahoma Glacier Route).

  • I think you're exactly right. This is on the approach NW face, the next photo is W or SW. That glacier looks really crevassed and scary...
