What are the white poles on the right and left of the frame?

It was taken from a bridge... The same bridge you can see in a later photo of the park. I couldn't get them out of the shot while showing any appreciable amount of the river.

are too thin to belong to a bridge.

Yeah, maybe Catherine can explain how it works. It was just a pedestrian footbridge so I guess it didn't have to hold much weight, and based on the way China does construction I guess it probably won't have be around very long either.
