This was the most challenging part of the climb: trying to find a route around the trees (but still in the trees to minimize the risk of triggering an avalanche) but also not so steep that we couldn't climb without sliding backward, all while blazing a trail through the 5-6 feet of new snow. We were all soon sweaty and hot despite the sub-zero (Celsius) temperatures.
