With so much new snow, the going was slow, tiring work. Yang, Monica and Vinnie all carried snowboards on their backs and used snowshoes to get around. I brought my skis. As luck would have it, we had tracks to follow for the first mile or two but after that we caught up with the two people making those tracks.

Silly non-split-boarders.

Catherine, you can buy me a splitboard and then I don't be so silly anymore. It's only $1200! http://www.priorsnowboards.com/boards_brandywine_splitboard.php (Apparently this is the only women's specific splitboard in production.)

Maybe one day, Monica. One day when I'm rich and famous. Or just rich.
— Catherine Hovell
All I have to say is silly snowboarders :o)
— John Hovell
I feel the need to find a link to some sweet backcountry skis and ask you to buy them for me...
— Catherine Hovell
Yeah, John. Buy us some skis and pay for some lessons for us. :)
— Monica Lee
*roll eyes* you guys are crazy. btw, when did splitboards get so dang expensive? Been looking on the Voile site, their entry model is $900! Given it comes with skins which might cost $150... Catherine do you remember if your board came with skins? I think it did but I can't remember... I definitely didn't pay anywhere near $900 for your board.
— John Hovell
Aren't backcountry skis just as expensive? Maybe they get put on sale though since there are more...
— Monica Lee
No way! My Rossignol Dirty Birds cost me ~$200... looks like you can still get the same ski today new for $240 http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/3074,83776_Rossignol-Dirty-Bird-Telemark-Skis.html My bindings were ~$180, skins were ~$100. So ~$500-550 bought me the equivalent of an $1100 split board. They're great skis too. My powder skis were a bit more expensive, but I got them on sale, maybe $450, so $200-250 more.
— John Hovell
If it's only $500 then you're getting the backcountry skiing set up for us??? ;) Oh, you forgot the boots too.
— Monica Lee
I think the Voile board you got me listed around $750, but I don't know what you paid. It did come with skins.
— Catherine Hovell
What are you talking about? I still have my Dirty Birds, and I saw a pair of Women's Garmont Tele boots size 24.5 advertised on a forum today for $75. So, for $75, I can get you set up. So, just to be sure, you're switching to skiing if I buy you a telemark setup?
— John Hovell
And lessons... you may be the direct or indirect provider of those.
— Monica Lee
Haha. Monica - I have a book. You can borrow it whenever you want. Catherine - that was my memory as well, though I did get them on year-end closeout. I think you could actually sell your 5+ year old used setup for a several hundred dollar profit today. *So confused*
— John Hovell
But but but, I don't wanna sell my setup! I like it!
— Catherine Hovell
I learned to snowboard from a book and you can tell how well that's going.
