Catherine, you might be entertained to learn that I woke up one morning and found this 6-story gantry crane having materialized outside my hotel window. I have no idea where it came from, but it was being used to construct an elevated concrete metro line.

Maybe they just rolled it over from some other project...

How, exactly, do you just "roll something over" that's 6 stories tall and wider than a freeway?

I was thinking maybe on one of those super-highways you've shown, that are huge with no traffic. Perhaps I underestimated the size of the crane, and overestimated the size of the highway. My new guess is they brought it in in lots of pieces, on many trucks.

Still, if they were able to assemble it in one night in the dark, that's pretty amazing.

By the way, this gantry crane is still here, though they have constructed several more miles of track. Some of the intersections where they were working in November are totally unrecognizable now. I was especially sad as the park I used to go running in is now a big pile dirt for more train track.

:( Poor little innocent park.

Yeah, it really sucks. This country makes me do depressed. We went to visit a lake today and it reminded me how much I miss nature.
