Just showing what great form the 530ci is holding. This is near a "rammed earth" house about 40 miles north of Tucson. Rammed earth is an adobe like building material containing 5-7% "Portland" and the rest 'dirt'. Not sure if that is volume, weight, or what. Also not sure of how much water. You pour the stuff into frames and tamp it down about 50% ... 8" compacts to 5". Let it set, build some more frames and do it again. Walls are about 2' thick.

  • At the end of my senior year of high school we went on a trip to West Virginia to do a habitat-for-humanity style trip (I think it may have been another group though). But in any case we built (most of) a house using this material. Very inexpensive and apparently excellent insulation.

  • I would assume "Portland" is referring to Portland cement... I've heard of using cement for soil stabilization; this sounds similar, but vertically oriented.
