We met Joel at the lower trailhead next to the Balch Powerhouse just as darkness was covering us at the bottom of this deep and magnificent gorge. We parked Colin's Golf as a recovery vehicle and packed into the XTerra to drive to 4,000 feet where camping would be much more comfortable.
