Andy, utilizing some rock climbing skills to get up to a ledge where a bolt for the next rappel was. Reason for the awkward climb was to avoid a "keeper" pothole, far to deep smooth and tall to escape. Sometimes you can utilize a partner assist (one person stands on another persons shoulders while the bottom one holds their breath. Sometimes it's necessary to stack 3 or more people this way to escape a pothole. But since this pothole had a huge dead raven floating in it, we were all very happy we could circumvent it entirely.

  • Neat picture; looks like Andy is finishing some massive climb.

  • Why so many dead birds in these pools?

  • Gravity? Seriously though, I think they fall in when they are sick or injured and can't get out, or are washed in by the rain. I think I read about a group finding a dead cow in a canyon. No, wait, it was two dead cows. The second one was a calf who had presumably followed "Mommy" into the abyss. I think it is called Sad Cow Canyon. No wait, Sad Cow Disease. Haha.
