Goddess of Liberty on top of the Capitol. 400 ft high dome. The 18-ft high 2000 lb Goddess of Liberty was replaced in the 1990's with a new 1000 lb aluminum version which was airlifted into place by the Texas and Mississipi Air National Guards. The entire exterior of the Capitol is made from Texas red granite, with the exception of the dome, which is sheet metal, painted with crushed Texas red granite.
