So, the next morning, we set out on an overnight to see Neon Canyon, on the other side of the Escalante River. We had this complicated plan to hike down to the Escalante, drop our camp gear, hike back up the other side of the drainage, hike down Neon Canyon and camp. The next day, we would hike out sans-camp gear back to our car. Then, we would drive around to the other bench on the south side of the Escalante and sleep at the car one night. In the morning, we would hike down Choprock Canyon (supposed to be very long and very cold) and then arrive at the bottom to find our camp waiting for us by the Escalante. For a number of reasons, this plan never fully materialized, as we decided not to descend Choprock. Here we are hiking into the Escalante Drainage from the Egypt Bench.
