This dam was an amazing feat of engineering and management. No one company was capable of doing the work so the govt pulled 6 companies together - and they were called 6 Companies, Inc. They invented techniques and procedures never used before - and they worked. 85 men were died in building the dam which was significantly below what they expected (a number the 85 died from disease, etc - and none are buried in the concrete as has been rumored). 4 years from start to finish which was 2 years under plan, and the cost was well below budget. The History Channel did a documentary on the building of the dam.
