Looking into a diversion tunnel. Four of these were dug through the canyon walls starting north of the proposed site to channel the Colorado river. Once they were in place, a coffer dam was built in the river, diverting the water into the tunnels. A second coffer dam was built south of the site to prevent any back flow.
