This lake is a 'sister' lake to the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Neither have an outlet and serve as a basin that collects water that becomes saltier and saltier ... not sure why.

  • All rivers have some salt in them, picked up from the rock and earth they pass through. Once in a lake with no exit, the water eventually evaporates, but the salt stays behind. Eventually, the lake will reach an equilibrium salinity where the salt will precipitate and get reabsorbed into the lake bottom. This is sort of what is going on in the oceans as well.
