While walking around Cologne early in the morning, I passed this office for the german subway building authority which had a really cool model of the machinery they use to dig subway tunnels. As is typical in German engineering, why use one part when 17 will do? The tunnel digger has different stages which chop rock, automatically scoop it up and put it onto conveyor belts which bring it to waiting hopper cars. I thought it was pretty cool.
