On Sunday, the weather was even worse than Saturday. For some reason, we even bothered to drive up the hill and wait in line to get back in the park, only to be rained on before giving up on climbing and driving back down to Lee Vining. New plan: grab take-out sandwiches in Lee Vining and then drive to go see a real ghost town! On the drive to Bodie (northeast of Lee Vining) the rain was torrential and we heard the loudest thunder we have ever heard. Twice we drove by raging wildfires, presumably set moments before by lightning. Then later we saw Forest Service fire trucks parked by the side of the road nearer to the fires. Apparently this storm was a big deal.
