On Monday, Monica and I decided we'd drive back through Yosemite, and attempt a canyoneering descent of a section of the South Fork of the Tuolumne River east of Groveland. However, at the last minute, as we were driving by Lembert Dome, the weather looked acceptable enough to make a try at climbing the face. We quickly assembled our gear and made for the southwest face of the dome. Here I am leading the second pitch of Left Water Crack (5.7R) while Monica belays in the background. This picture is possible because of the unique nature of the second pitch - you climb from within a several foot deep water crack that is about 16-20 inches wide, and polished glass smooth by countless rainstorms.

Happy climber! Nice to read this and have a vivid picture of Lembert Dome in mind, having just driven past it.
