Catherine, on top of Lone Peak. I always think that ridge in the background would be fun to ski. It also makes me believe this mountain was volcanic (is it?).

Yes. Very volcanic. And still active. There are fumeroles all over. The mountain is primarily Andesite, a.k.a. chocolate chips. I forget the name of the mountain band in the background, but I do remember a former ski instructor telling me about leading a group of teenagers back there for a snow camping trip (NOLS or somesuch) and that one of them got rather severe frostbite and had to be evacuated.

Hmm. Well, I don't desire the frostbite part of that story, but I bet camping on that mountain ridge would be really cool! I guess I could forgo the skiing part and do it in the summer...

Camping on ridge in summer? BTW, did you hear about this? http://www.theadventurelife.org/2010/07/choppers-pluck-16-from-grand-teton-in-dramatic-rescue/
