We had no idea this mountain was towering above us to the west until the fog cleared. On the first mile or so of the hike, we met many other hikers returning to camp, who had an earlier start but then gave up because of poor visibility. We're glad that we spent some time fortifying ourselves for the cold weather in the tent, and also that we stuck it out, since the weather continued to improve all afternoon.
