I think this boulder had fallen recently, taking that prickly pear with it. Jay thinks it was actually growing out from beneath. Thoughts?

  • I'd go with the "recent fall" theory, because the rock doesn't look very "settled in". OTOH, the surrounding area doesn't look like where a prickly pear might have been growing (for the rock to have crushed).

  • If the rock had fallen, it would have had to come a decent distance (in huge rains, or some other scenario)... Also, there were prickly pears all around, just not on the slab pictured.
