Often in mountain climbing, reaching the summit comes as a surprise, especially if the summit tapers off in slope, rendering it out of sight to the climber until she is on it. However, with well-trodden mountains such as Mt. Whitney or Half Dome, often the climber is given slightly more advance notice that the summit is upon her. At a certain point Monica says "it smells like pee here", and I was left to conclude that if that were the case, tourists must (and thus the walk up path to the top) must not be far off.
